The latest annual national survey of child restraint use in New Zealand by children under 5 years was carried out in September 2005 and the figures show that 89% of children under the age of 5 years were either in an infant seat, child seat, booster seat, or restrained by a child harness.
While the results indicate that child restraint wearing, which is compulsory for children 5 years and under, has been steadily increasing every year, in addition to the wearing rates is the concern for child restraints that includes the standard and correct fitting of the seat, plus the correct seat for the age and size of the child.
