Competencies have been described as 'a series of behaviours or actions that make up a portion of a job'.
(Kravetz, D. 1997. Training best practices. Ill., USA: Kravetz Associates Publishing.)
A competency is not an entire job — rather, a series of competencies are needed to complete a task. Thus, a competency is 'what a successful person must be able to do to achieve the desired results'.
The competencies covered in the CRSP training list are very broad, to encompass the wide range of management and implementation models for community road safety projects throughout New Zealand.
Some competencies will be more applicable in some areas than others, but most of the competencies listed will be relevant for all road safety co-ordinators and community providers.
