New support for delivering a community speed management programme

The If you are prepared to speed Be Prepared to kill resource kit has been enhanced to support the delivery of community speed management programmes.

The original kit was developed by Land Transport NZ and other partners as a discussion starter on speed.

The enhanced resource contains:

Effective speed management programmes provides a step-by-step guide to delivering a community speed management programme. It includes a summary of two trials undertaken by road safety co-ordinators who used the resource to deliver community a speed management programme. Examples of speed management activities delivered throughout New Zealand are also included.

The CD ROM included in this resource pack provides samples of community speed management activities’ artwork and media coverage. Examples of the artwork and media coverage developed during the resource trials are located on www.crsp.net.nz/resources/#speed This site will be regularly updated as new programmes are delivered.

The development of this enhanced resource has been made possible through road safety professionals’ knowledge and support. Their support is gratefully acknowledged, in particular the road safety co-ordinators who trialled the resource: Sally Phelps, Debbie Webster and Jane Ballantyne (the first two stages).

Update on the Road Safety Innovation Awards

Entries for the Road Safety Innovation and Achievement Awards close 10 March, so there is only limited time to get people to enter.

The interest this year has been even higher than previous years and we are expecting a record number of entries.

Previous winners continue to make a difference to road safety, for example the community initiatives keep getting extended and re-used, and the Christchurch 40km/h temporary speed zone, 2003 Road Engineering winner, is being adopted by more and more local authorities.

Your support to encourage people to enter would be very much appreciated.

Hon Harry Duynhoven, will host the awards ceremony in Parliament’s Grand Hall in May, with a winner from each category attending as part of their prize.
